One need not be a Rodeo star, though, to enjoy Bandera. If you like the nightlife and good country music, Bandera holds braggin' rights as having the most entertainment venues per capita of any town in Texas (maybe anywhere!!). Every Friday and Saturday night, 5 different nightspots feature a variety of individuals and bands, live and in person, and a couple of others crank up the jukeboxs and provide great country music for the many who come to Bandera to dance and socialize.
Bandera loves a parade..... almost any excuse will do..... Cowboy Mardi Gras kicks off the parade season each year in February, then the Memorial Day Parade in May, and another on Labor Day weekend, the Sheriff's Posse and seems like everyone in Bandera and surrounding counties who owns or can borrow a horse, mounts up and strut their stuff down main street! The floats are always unique, Bandera-style, difficult to describe..... from the gigantic (we're talking 30-40 ft spread) Longhorn float (entered by (Who Else?!!) the Longhorn Saloon, complete with Old-West style saloon girls, to the high school marching band, and not to forget the herd of 30 or so real, live longhorn cattle herded down main street by mounted cowboys, just like in the old days..... Well, it's like no parade you'll see anywhere else, and we love it!
The first weekend in November brings the opening of deer season, and with it Bandera's notorious "Hunters Weekend"! Hunters and party lovers come from far and wide to toast the advent of cooler weather and enjoy the kickoff of hunting season in the Texas Hill Country. It's an extravaganza the whole town participates in, with the Chamber of Commerce hosting the traditional Hunter's Bar-B-Que, vendors on the courthouse lawn, the best of the best Country bands performing and everyone shining up their boots, starching their Wranglers, and cutting loose for an unmatched good time.
If you've never been to Bandera, you owe it to yourself to make the trip; I guarantee it won't be your last!
